Last weekend, Kim Jae Joong successfully carry out two solo concerts in Nanjing, which is also his first time holding consecutive concerts in China.

On December 7th, Nanjing fell to the haze which resulted in flights being cancelled and fans had to change to high speed rail or chartered transport, braving much difficulties, just to make sure they managed to get to the concert venue.

Facing a full crowd, Jae expressed with mixed feelings “I was worried many fans may not be able to make it due to the weather, but fortunately all came.”

Two consecutive days of concert with a total attendance of almost 10,000 people shows Kim Jae Joong’s box office appeal.

Since last year’s October, from fan-meetings to concerts, this is Kim Jae Joong’s 3rd time holding individual performances in Nanjing in roughly a year.

2013 is his 10th year since his debut and is undoubtedly enriching; from his first mini album, first full solo album, Asia tours and his first consecutive concerts in China.

After the press con and prior to the concert, Sina managed to meet up with Kim Jae Joong for the 3rd time in Nanjing in about a year and talked about his new songs and his concerts.

(Adding an additional day of concert for the sake of fans
Loves the challenge of high vocal range)

Sina: In what circumstances made you decide to announce an additional day in less than a week prior to the Nanjing concert?
Kim Jae Joong: As there weren’t enough tickets for the first night and many people did not managed to purchase, there is the decision to add one more day of concert so that more people can attend. I was a little concerned but ultimately decided to add one more day to perform for everyone, to enjoy the concert together.

Sina: From last year’s October till now, this is your 3rd concerts in Nanjing, is it because you prefer it here?
KJJ: I like Nanjing but the concert venues weren’t intentionally planned. It’s not that I particularly like Nanjing, I like Beijing and Shanghai too. They are all the same.

Sina: Then I hope you will have the chance to hold concerts in Beijing too. In your new album, the songs are all high notes, will it be exhausting during your concerts?
KJJ: It is very tiring.

Sina: Did you ever feel, when singing, why do I write such a difficult song, or why did I chose such a high pitch song?
KJJ: I did listen to songs which are of lower keys and are touched by them when I was young. But I’ve also listen to higher tone songs with strong emotions and evoked strong feelings within myself. Because of my preferences, I will subconsciously choose to compose these kinds of songs. I also do not like to produce songs similar to others that’s why I chose this style.

(Relax and enjoy the concerts
Wish of Korean concert tour fulfilled)

Sina: In order to fully expressed these difficult songs, what will you do to prepare your vocals prior to the concerts?
KJJ: I wouldn’t do anything.

Sina: What about a little alcoholic drink?
KJJ: Drinking prior concerts in hope of preparing your vocals is impossible.
All the songs are tough and pitches are high, but compared to giving myself more pressure, I prefer to have the mentality of going out to have fun, being relaxed throughout the concert, enjoying with everyone, and I’ll not feel so tired even after 20 songs.

Sina: You announced your very first Korean concert tour yesterday and every weekend of January next year, you’ll hold a concert in different areas, how do you feel?
KJJ: I’ve been holding concerts around Asia and in other countries but never did a tour in my own country. It is always a source of regret but now that I can have one, I’ve fulfilled my wish.

(Composing song imaging fans as lover
Change concert theme for fans)

Sina: You said “Paradise” is written for fans but the lyrics seem like promises made to a lover. Can you share the story behind the lyrics?
KJJ: “Paradise” is indeed written for fans but by imaging all of them as one person. The song itself is also like whispers for a lovers but I was really thinking of my fans while writing the song.

Sina: Concerts have been more intensive nowadays, do you usually have to do any special workout or eat anything special to keep up your strength?
KJJ: There isn’t any special exercise nor diet. Only before the very first concert were special diets designed but didn’t really manage it after the concert tour started.

Sina: The lyrics to the song “I said I’m sorry” creates a visual image and is like telling a true story, when did you composed this song?
KJJ: The lyrics of this song is written when producing this new album, the music was originally a dance track but was converted to a ballad.

Sina: After our last interview, you set your dress code for your Nanjing concert, but this morning you changed it?
KJJ: I decided to change the dress code yesterday because the last one could be too difficult, so for the sake of new fans, I changed to this theme now.

Sina: I don’t know if I should reveal this but some fans actually prepared Iron Man masks for the dress code theme.
KJJ: If it’s Iron man mask, then it should be “calm”? (Note: original theme is “Light, Scream, Delight”, new theme is “Calm and Passion”)

Sina: Isn’t it glow? “Light”.
KJJ: Is it? I’m very optimistic about it.

Sina: To hold your concert consecutively for the first time in China, Jaejoong can tell the fans at the end of the first night “See you tomorrow” instead of “Goodbye”, fans will be very touched. How about saying something to China fans?
KJJ: Hi everyone, I’m Kim Jae Joong. This is my first time holding consecutive concerts in China, I’m very happy to be able to spend the time together. Because of your love, I can hold two concerts consecutively. I will try my best to make the concerts more fun and I believe it will become an unforgettable moment for everyone.
